HAve you got ccleaner and mbam, if not downlooad ccleaner from cnet version 2.10.10 and mbam from www.malwarebytes.org before you open mbam rename it to rabbit.exe or something that you remember place it on your desktop and then update it and then, empty recycle bin, run it in safe mode, ccleaner will clean all temp files and folder and empty your browser cache if it asks you do you want to back files and folders up click yes !
If life is not an option then why are we not given the option in the first place !

hi,,,, try to send a ping out to see if your going past the router,,, if it pings fine then we will look deper into the web browser issue,,,,
click on start orb,, type ,,,,,,,, cmd ,,,,,,,,,, into search box t bottom of start menu when cmd is offerd in the above pane ,, right click it and select run as administrator,,,, the command prompt window will open,,,, copy and paste this command into the cmd,,,,,,
ping www.google.co.uk ,,,,,,,,,
this is what you should see if your getting past the router to your isp,,,

Pinging www.l.google.com [209.85.229.104] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 209.85.229.104: bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=54
Reply from 209.85.229.104: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=54
Reply from 209.85.229.104: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=54
Reply from 209.85.229.104: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 209.85.229.104:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 21ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 22ms

let us know how the ping test went
good luck.

Have a look at the back of the computer and see if there is a light when you plug your internet cable into the aethernet port.

Also have a look in `Device Manager` under `Network Adapters` and see do you have any conflicts, i.e yellow triangles or ? marks.

It may be that you have to reinstall your ethernet driver, usually `Realtech`. You may have to download it and transfer it onto your mates pc using a pen drive or such like.

going by what the op says about the 2 screens in the notification area,,,, he has a connection to his router,,, ie,, 2 screens with the little blue globe in,,, otherwise it would have a red X through it or a yellow triangle with limited connection,,,, a ping test will establish then if its his browsers,,, or the hardware,,, ie cables,,, network card,,, filters or his isp

"yeh i did that mate and it connects to my router ok and the signal is excellent but when i try to open a web page its "page cannot be displayed"

this is in one of the op's posts,,,, so he does have a connection to the router
so sending a ping will tell us if all the hardware is ok,,, then if the op phones his isp and asks them to check his line this will also give us more info,,,, then i would consider checking the browsers,,, ie,,, uninstall with revo then redownload or downloading another browser to see if works,,,, also i would check if he can still receive emails through his isp's email account (not an internet based email like gmail etc as these use browsers),,,,,,,,,,,

so,,, the ping test is valid ;)

Yeah maybe your right Figgis, i had got that involved in conversation with the OP that i'd forgotten that he'd wrote that  , so doing a ping may sort it failing that getting in touch with his isp would be the next line of fire, checking his network adapters like Twodigitz has suggested  !

hi,,,, i do think you could be on the right track,,, with the flushing of the browsers with ccleaner,,,,,,,, and if it pings fine then he still has an out going internet connection,,, then i would also recommend that the op's first step is also recommended by you,,, he needs to download mbam installer to a flash drive,,, install it and run it, even though it will be slightly out of date on the virus definitions,,, it still give some piece of mind.

My next suggestion would be to open `Event Viewer` and scroll down to `Winsock` & `LAN` to check if they are operational.

I dont know Vista but i am using `Windows 7` which i am led to believe is similar so you could open the network centre and click `show full map` which should help you pinpoint exactly where its breaking down and importantly which side of the router.
