BleepingComputer.com: Monitor Bugging Out

Hi BleepingComputer,

I own a Viewsonic VA520 monitor and recently it started having problems. At completely random times, the contrast bar would pop up and remain on the screen. I try to close it using the monitor buttons, but none of the 5 buttons work (including the power button). Sometimes, after furiously pressing all of them, the contrast bar would start depleting until it reaches zero. Usually then I can switch between contrast and brightness, but closing it still doesn't work. When I DO get it to close, it seems to be pure luck. I updated to the latest driver, but it still has the same problem. I've had this monitor for four or five years now... maybe it's just time to replace it? I'm just hoping that it's not the computer that's causing the issue instead of the monitor. Any suggestions?

There shouldn't be any way something external to the monitor can cause that effect. It's usually due to something causing electrical leakage on the control board carrying the function buttons. Either the switch itself faulty, residue on the board from screen cleaning/liquid spill, or some similar cause. The functionality of the other buttons is lost because it appears to the monitor as if that button is being held on. There can be other causes, but in my experience this is usually what does it.
