BleepingComputer.com: Internal Hardrive ( HELP )

Hi,

OS Vista 64 Bit

Running external Nas case powered via the network inside connected to it was a ide Wd 180Gb hard drive.

Some how its got corrupted so i got the stupid case and thew it out it was good 4 nothing but corrupting my drive what a nightmare.

So i went out and got a ide to usb adaptor to try and read the data and it tells me it needs to be format cannot get into it.

I assume that the partition/mbr is damaged is there a way of fixing it without format as i need the data.

Run Hd Tune and this was the result.

Looks like 4 Damaged sectors.

Is there anything other than recovery to get the drive into right state before recovery and format.

If a WD drive fails the WD extended diagnostic...I'd be looking for a replacement drive.

The drive is unreliable as far as future activity, IMO.

What would be good recovery software to recover data with a drive that has damaged sectors.

it may be impossible to recover from bad sectors

The chkdsk /r command (within XP) recovers data from bad sectors, as best as it is able.

Have you run that?

If not, I would normally suggest doing so...then running the HDTune scan again.

But...the big concern is that your drive failed the manufacturer's diagnostic.

Well...no recovery effort is guaranteed, as pointed out in previous post.

I've had success using GetDataBack - Data Recovery Software - http://runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm but I don't think our situations are similar.
