I recently bought an HP Photosmart Premium all in one printer, etc. which was ridiculously easy to set up , I thought, until I discovered that all the shortcut icons on my desktop for programs on my external hard drive had disappeared. I immediately suspected some kind of usb port weirdness, since I plugged the printer into a slot right next to the one for the hard drive. After unsuccessfully trying to find a blocked port or something similar ( I'm not even close to geekdom, so this doesn't mean there isn't anything like that), I decided to try to restore the shortcuts by finding the appropriate files in the hard drive, and was mostly successful with a kind of hit and miss approach consistent with my depth of understanding ( shallow). To make an already long story short, I got everything but Photoshop back. I have since tried repairing, reinstalling, etc. and nothing seems to work. I truly believe that the file for the shortcut didn't go anywhere, I just can't recognize it. Adobe is no help at all, since it's an older version ( 6.0) of Photoshop. Any ideas ?

Have you tried search using key words, search both Drive (C:) and your external drive ?
