pc wont boot up

my hp pavilion pc wont boot up. after the post screen, it displays a black screen that states boot mgr is missing. press ctrl, alt, del to restart.
the only two commands that work in the post screen are set up and diagnostics. thanks for any and all help

rebuilding the boot.ini file using the bootcfg program.

my bad, this pc has vista installed and I have no recovery discs that came with it.

I now have a disc I burned from the web with my other pc. Now I can partially boot to the repair tool but, my os is not on the list. It says that I need to load the drivers for my hard drive. How do I go about doing just that? Keeping in mind that all my windows data is on the hard drive along with a partition for recovery. HP does not include any discs when you purchase a one of their pcs.
