My friend has a PC problem and I am trying to help,
. . .

It responds after starting to the selection page where it says to start normally etc. I tried both the safe mode and the Normal mode,. . the Windows XP screen appears then a Blue Screen;

STOP: c0000218{Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\Systems Root\Sustems32\Config\SYSTEM
or it is corrupt, absent or Not Writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator, etc.

I have two disc for dell PC's but they were originally for a Dell Lap Top;
Operating System Reinstalling MS WXP HE Including SP1 - DELL

Drives, Utilities, and Applications For Reinstalling DELL Inspiron 8200 System Software

Not sure if they will help

I also Have a Windows Quick Restore set for My Compaq, and a Windows XP SP2 Upgrade.

Is there a way I can get this thing started, to find out if there is a chance I can restore,
to an earlier date,
or do a restore from the previous installation ?

See if the system specific disks are available for down from Dell, I would not use the lap top disks you can end up in a worse mess.

OK, please excuse that idea, . . but it wont let any disc, with exception I had I think an F disc set and it ran those to #4 then stated that ;
The file Sbp2port.sys is corrupted, . .

in any case I have read very little on this it they seem to advise not to do anything if your PC has an OEM restore program, etc. is there a way to find out what this has ? or access the machine in some way? I am not optimistic about that, but a suggestion out there may help

I have no manuals and no disc at this time.

What do you mean, "down from DELL. or are you speaking of this model at Dell etc. ?

I am also getting a critical error on A drive which I have apart but have the CD ROM remotely plugged in to try a disc no results for the error from test from clicking F10 when starting,

Know anything about A drives for these machines ?

There are two disc drives, have any ideas which goes where One on top of the other but which does it matter ?

I'm assuming 'down', means downloadable from Dell.

Is it possible to supply a more specific Dell model number?

does Reset Configuration Data {Disabled} have any thing to do with this, I tried to test the HD from F12 Key, but it returned me to the BSOD

Have you made changes in the bios, might have something to do with this. If so try the bios defaults setting.

I am getting the systems sate/time appear to be incorrect and may cause this program to behave incorrectly. Please use the setup utility to correct them.

What exactly does that mean ?

Will I have to type anything, or use arrows ?

I am not sure I can get the mouse up and working yet .

Try replacing the CMOS battery, CMOS Battery Replacement - http://www.liverepair.com/encyclopedia/art...cmosreplace.asp. Ignore the suggestion that settings be written down, the system will just go with the default settings (which are designed to ensure that the system boots).

When the date/time are inaccurate, it's usually an indication that the CMOS battery needs to be replaced.

Previously I did remove ,(and replace, with the same), the battery as suggested by what I read to reset the default settings, however when it came to the Jumper, I was not sure if in fact it was the HD jumper or just how it was suppose to be set.

Has that caused the reason for the time message ?

If I could set the time manually it may indicate that that is not the problem afterwards, . . I do not know how to set that on this DELL Dimension 2350

I will get back to Dell today and find out about reinstalling the system etc.

I may be able to speak with them on this subject.

Thank you.

My other option I am considering purchasing a second hand HD, if I can get same and installing it to find out more, it may even have a OS on it.
If not I do have a SP1 Dell Microsoft Operating system disc XPH, it does not specify what PC it is for possibly it is a generic or general OS Disc. ??

To add to the situation, while speaking to the agent at DELL, he wanted to identify the original purchaser owner of the computer, so I had to discontinue our meeting until I obtain that information, .
however in the int-rum, I discovered that one option he gave was that I could erase the HD,
and reinstall with the mere basic disc I have, it is a Operating System
Re installation CD Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 1

I don't think this will install drivers and programs, correct if not can these be downloaded from Internet Sources ?

If you have the mother board diagram it will show the CMOS jumper, it is simple just follow the instructions to clear the CMOS. Fair chance it will fix your issue.
