hey guys
OS:ubuntu 9.04
i got two questions

first one is
i had 3.1 gb left of harddisk space and then all a sudden i only got 1.7 gb left
so how can i clean useless crap off ubuntu ?
i was going to use computer janitor but i heard that causes lots of problems
plus its seems it has things i need

also how can i test my firewall(firestarter)
i tried using norton online security check
but it says it only works on windows/mac
firestarter says it has blocked nothing
but when it windows ZA blocks a lot of things(1 thing a day)

a other problem is that i cant play WMA files(music files)
i tried install win32codecs but it wont work with banshee music player or movieplayer

last problem is that i can get hibernate to work at all
once its finishes showing the screen saver it goes to a black screen and never tuns off

i hope you can think this guys
thanks for looking

I think this may have been caused by an update. The system downloads and saves the files before actually starting an update. I'm not sure why it wasn't cleaned afterwards, but it happens to me sometimes. Unfortunately, I don't know how to remove them manually. You may also want to clear your browser's cache; it uses a lot of space after a while.

I don't know for sure; I removed it because it was not allowing me to browse the internet or my network. The only method I can think of is to try and see what firestarter is supposed to block and use another computer to connect to the Linux box using the blocked method. For example, if firestarter is set to block ping (ICMP) packets, simply try to ping the Linux box with another computer.

Try this if you haven't: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=125215

This seems to be a common problem with Linux. I searched this on Google and found numerous results.

Try this (uswsusp):

You may want to try browsing/posting at the Ubuntu forums for the stuff I wasn't very helpful with.

Open up terminal and type in the command
sudo aptitude autoclean

that will remove any old packages that you dont need.
Also under Applications>Accessories click on Disk Usage Analyzer, that will show you where you are using up a lot of data.

This is what firestarter recmends to test its firewall with: Testing Tools
Also depending on what services and applications are running on your computer the firewall could be blocking different things.

This is what i could find on WMA files. However if you have done that already... Have you tried a player like VLC? see how that works for you.

And the last one is a common problem with *nix. That you will have to play around with, i suggest you just use Standby mode.

Edit: MadDawg beat me to the posts. and i think he used the same links that I did

Try putting them into Windows Media Player, converting them to mp3 then using them in Ubuntu.
