I have Windows XP Home Ver 5.2.2600, SP2 and just recently discovered that Windows Explorer is not appearing on the Accessories listing for my "limited" user account. I thought this feature was available to all users. Seems like it used to be on the Accessories list for my limited account. Can you tell, I don't use Windows Explorer very often. It does appear on the Accessories listing for my "administrative" user account. Anyone have any idea why this feature isn't on the limited account?

Is there a way to get it to appear in Accessories choices for the limited user?

There is another way to browser folders without using "windows explorer icon."

Just go Start > Run > type in the location you want to go to.

Or if you can get to the "My Computer." That works too.

Not sure why Windows Explorer would be "restricted" on the limited account, maybe the administrator specifically disabled it.

I believe SP 2 disabled it for security reasons - restricting access for limited usage accounts.

If you want that question answered with more than an opinion contact Microsoft.

They offer free support on SP 2 issues.

Thanks, Enthusiast. May ask my curiosity question at Microsoft Security Support. Didn't think this was a security issue. I just thought it was something I might have done or changed lately. We novices can do such things so easily.

Thanks also to you, Yanowiz. I always do my searches via Help, Search or go to My Computer. Didn't know I could type in "Explorer" in Start, Run. Will remember that easy way to invoke it, too.

Thanks, guys.

Hi Buttoni,

While I use w2k and not XP I found the easiest way to open windows explorer is to:

Hold down the windows key (the key between the CTRL and ALT keys on the lower left) and tap the “E” key.

Regards,
Jaws

Thanks, Jaws. I have never used the Windows key before. It works!

Here are the shortcuts, one can probably not remember all of them but might be able to remember the ones that are commonly used.

Thanks for the links, RR. Very educational! I have a long list of shortcut keys, but forget about those features, other than the copy and paste shortcuts I use a lot. You know what they say, "If you don't use it, you lose it".

Will be using the Windows+E a lot from now on. Thanks again.
