Remember username and password for Hotmail...

Ok its starting to annoy me now that when i check my emails i have to type my user and password in all the time..

I don't know the password by mind i have to copy/paste it from my txt doc which is annoying.

Firefox is ment to remember it?

How do i get Firefox to remember it?

Go to Tools>Options>click on the Security tab

Check the box that says Remember Password for Sites

Hotmail may be one of the sites that uses autocomplete="off", to disable automatic form filling.
Other such sites are Yahoo Mail, and Microsoft Passport
There's a bookmarklet available for Firefox that may work fo you.

remember password

Just grab the bookmarklet, and drag it to your Bookmarks Toolbar.

There's also a firefox.js hack to circumvent that, but if the bookmarklet works...

Thanks for asking the question.
I always wondered why some sites would allow autocomplete for usernames, and passwords, and some wouldn't.
Your question gave me a reason to research it (if you call 10 minutes, research :flowers:

), and because of that, I don't have to type in my Yahoo login, any more. :thumbsup:

Hi samuel3, Thanks for asking that question. I have been going crazy with that same problem for some time now.

Thanks tg1911, Thanks for supplying that link in your answer. I got it and it has already saved me from doing some hair pulling.

Now to expand on the question. Hotmail used to offer a drop down menu on their sign in page that would auto complete when you started entering an email address..., is there a way to get that back?

There are several of us who all have hotmail accounts and at one time all we had to do was knock who evers name appeared in the sign in box out and start typing in our own email address and a drop down menu would appear with our email address on it.

Is there a way to get that feature back?

Websites prohibit password saving

Some websites do not allow for passwords to be saved for security reasons.

WARNING! This procedure involves editing a file critical to Firefox. MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!

1. Close all Firefox windows.
2. Locate the nsLoginManager.js file (usually located in C:\Program Files\Firefox\components
3. Open the file in your favorite text editor.
4. Find this stanza about 725 lines down:

if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&
 element.getAttribute("autocomplete").toLowerCase() == "off")
 return true;

edit it to look like this:

// if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&
  // element.getAttribute("autocomplete").toLowerCase() == "off")
  // return true;

5. Save and close the file.

This prevents Firefox from honoring the autocomplete=off attribute globally, across all profiles and accounts. This may present a security concern, however, because everything will now be saved in the form history, including things like Credit Card numbers, etc.

Would this clear the passwords i if clear history? I clear everything when i close FireFox.

This hack has no effect other than to make Firefox ignore the autocomplete="off" attribute used in some webpages. It does not change any other behavior. If you have Firefox set to erase form history when it closes, then it should wipe out things like credit card numbers and the like provided that they aren't stored as passwords in the password manager.
