I have checked modem and cables, when Im logged in wirelessly with my laptop it works fine. My desktop however has a popup that comes up (in the bottom right corner) that says network connction prob cable unplugged then it connects goes away for a few seconds then comes back. This problem is worse depending which user is loged in( one user its every 1 to 5 minnutes the other its 3 to 10 secconds) I uninstalled the network connection then shut down and let the computer find it and reintall but the problem is still there. I installed another network board and that has the same problem. I have dsl through Verizon they say its the compuer not the modem or cable

First, try a different port on the router. There should be 4 on the back for connecting PC's.

Second, try a different network cable.

Third, try WinsockFix ( http://majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html ) which will reset the networking structures back to default.
