A lot of legit companies use BitTorrent as a way to host files and keep the strain off of their servers, such as here.

madman6510, you wouldn't happen to know where I can get kubuntu via torrent? I want to use it to replace the debian I took off my computer, because I don't like the two year release cycle.

They have the .torrent links at http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/download.

Have you tried Linux Mint? It's supposed to be pretty good.

No I haven't. What's the difference between Mint and Ubuntu?

Quietman7, that is partially incorrect.
BubbaT said there was nothing inherently wrong with torrents. As such I explained why using torrents in general was a risk.

BitTorrent is an open source peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) communications protocol where users connect to each other directly to send and receive files. BitTorrent utilizes a central server which coordinates the action of all peers and provides a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the entire costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. For more specific information, please refer to BitTorrent FAQs.

As a P2P program, it is still susceptible to security risks.

Ok guys thanks!

I seem to have sparked a pretty controversial topic, and I am in turn, glad to do so. I am glad to see that torrent's aren't all bad, and I also understand QuietMan7's side as well.

Thanks everyone for the different and interesting sides to this thread.
