Good day all. I am running Win xp Sp3 and when I log on with the administrator account, i am unable to make any changes in registry or elsewhere. I am getting an access denied message with an error 5. All the services on the computer are stopped and I am unable to start them. I booted in safe mode and encountered the same problem. My network card is not loaded. When I go to the accounts in control panel and click on administrator, I am unable to do anything.

Need help

What accounts are reflected in User Accounts?

System manufacturer and model?

Louis

XP Home or XP Pro?

Please provide more information:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste
back here.

There would be some personal information (like System Name and User Name) or whatever appears to
be only your business that you can delete from the paste.

If you are able to get on the Internet:

Reduce the chances of malicious software by running some scans.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

These can be uninstalled later if desired.

Thanks Joseibarra. This system will not allow me to get any info from that command. It has disabled malwarebytes, Norton and other anti software. User accounts comes up with a white screen. Can't start RPC or any of those services. Network has been disabled and card uninstalled.

I would guess that your profiles are corrupt, since they seem to be missing (nothing in User Accounts).

I'm wondering how the system even booted without such.

Dial-A-Fix ( http://majorgeeks.com/Dial-a-fix_d4899.html ) is a collection of fabulously useful tools put together from Microsoft KB's. One tool is to repair permissions using the default set which came with Windoze.

I; though, have a sinking feeling from your problem description that you have been hit with a nasty and really should consider a wipe & reload of the system.
