Just did. It went through some stuff, rebooted. Thought it'd be fine, but then:

Stuck in a Windows logo "Please Wait" screen.

Please advice, budapest. And thanks again for sticking with me.

I rebooted (cant wait for Please Wait... forever).
I can now login to Windows. (even though the please wait process never finished)

But now, Outlook Express is missing.
I go to network connections to see if my firewall is up, but when I click on the Advance tap, there are no options. It just says something WMI is corrupted and I need to restore to a previous restore point.
I also cannot run Windows Update.

Is this because the Please Wait never finished? if so, what can I do to make it finish?
Thanks for your help.

Outlook Express shortcut was somehow wiped; but it seems the program and all my emails are still there. Solved.
Firewall fixed; problem due to WMI corrupted, so I re-regsrv all of the necessary dlls according to google research.
Windows Update fixed. It is the notorious update bug. Did that, but it wasn't fixed. Error code points to BITS. Tried to start it by net start BITS but I got an error. Googled, d/led termsvcfix; fixed that error. Start BITs, and Updated XP with all the hot fixes.
Daemon tools didnt work. Some sort of Initialization error. Uninstalled, and then reinstalled. This time is says virtual driver missing. Device Manager says SCSI driver is not working. Something must have changed due to repair. Use my mobo cd's SCSI driver, updated it. Now works.

Steam used to be in auto login, but now asks me for pwd. Don't know when the setting was changed, may be repair did something to it? But it works. Have not yet run to games.

Ran a non-steam game CoD4. Runs. But it seems a bit choppy. May be I am imagining it but it really does feel off. Going to update video drivers, just in case the old ones are somehow affected, making it sluggish.

Please don't lock this thread as fixed yet. There seems to be a lot of holes in XP still yet to be found. I'll spend some time using it, just to see if theres more than meets the eye.

Thanks Budapest for sticking with me.

If Windows Updates isn't working try this:

Step 1. Open Notepad (or any text editor).

Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):

regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, using a .bat or .cmd extension.

Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.

Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.

Step 6. Try the updates again.
