Every time I try to update my Windows Vista x86 Home Premium machine it throws a 80246008 error. I have searched on google and found this...

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...ffb2fd1033.mspx

BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) has been stopped. I set it to automatic start, and restart my pc, when restarted i get the same error, i check the service and it has been disabled again. I manually start it, after about 30 seconds it says it cannot be started.

I am virus/spyware/adware/malware free, as I have not used my PC machine for any websites, although it does have an internet connection, dispite this I ran the checks, Adaware SE, Spybot and AVG all find nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions/answers?
Thanks

What kind of antivirus are you using (not including the ones you scanned with)?

I use avast, but while AVG was installed I uninstalled Avast by recomendation because they 'conflict' I then put avast back on after avg.
