Up to you on wether or not to keep Messenger. If you don't use it, uninstall it.

Edit to add: if there are other things listed in Live Essentials that you don't want/need/use, uninstall those as well.
And while you are in Add Remove programs, look for Windows Live Sign In Assistant and Windows Live Upload Tool and delete those.

Maybe uninstalling all this stuff will resolve your issue.

I'm a bit confused. You say you go to Start menu/Programs. Were you looking for it there so you could UNINSTALL from there?

We need to establish which version of Messenger you have.
Click on My Computer from your desktop OR in your Start Menu.
Next click on Local Disk (C:)

Open up Program Files.
Scroll through the list. Do you see a folder named Messenger?
Also look for Windows Live folder and MSN Messenger folder.

The messenger folder is associated with MSN Messenger. This is included as a part of Windows XP.
It's one of the older versions, and if you attempted to use it, you'll get a notice that it has to be upgraded first. It's best to leave this one alone and not do anything with it.

MSN Messenger was used for previous upgraded versions of the program.

Windows Live is the newest incarnation of Windows applications, which includes Windows Live Messenger. This has replaced MSN Messenger.
IF you see Windows Live folder in All Programs, open it up. If there is a Messenger sub-folder, you do indeed have WLM installed. This can be uninstalled.

If you don't see Windows Live, you don't have it installed.

Also, you need to use ADD/REMOVE programs for uninstalling.
Click on Start, then Control Panel.
After Control Panel loads, choose Add Remove Programs.
When the list populates, scroll through it.
Do you see any references to MSN Messenger? If so, you can uninstall it.
If not listed, it's not on your system.

Hi, ye I know about the add/remove , it allways prompts to go there to uninstall.
So if I dont haveit installed why wont it let me send weblinks via outlook?
I just logged on windows live, then clik --close account . I got this-------------

Cannot close #####@live.co.uk
To close your account, you must resolve one or more of the following issues:

One or more paid services or a Microsoft Points account is linked to your account. To close this account, make sure each service is canceled and your Microsoft Points account is closed. Get help with this
There is a Microsoft e-mail account (Windows Live Hotmail) associated with your account, so you can't close your Windows Live account immediately. To close your Windows Live account, you need to close your Microsoft e-mail account first. After a period of inactivity, your Windows Live account will automatically be closed. Close your Microsoft account
The e-mail address for your account is part of a managed domain (for example, your employer, your Internet service provider, or a personal domain). To delete your account, contact the domain's administrator.
This account is a secondary account for an MSN Premium membership and can be closed only by the primary account manager. To close the account, contact the primary account manager.

OK
WTF does that mean. I clikd on the ----Close your microsoft account--- field ,but that didnt work either. Its like they dont wana let you leave.

Or------------------if I cant get rid of the freakin livemail................ is there a way of copying my whole contacts list from outlook to livemail. Ive tried but seems imposible. It wants to load them one at a time which I dont have time for.

Incidentally, when I right clik an image to send, it does go by outlook, but if its a web link then it just wants me to send it windows live? Weird?

Messenger and Live Mail are to seperate things. Messenger is not required in order to use WLM.
Not being able to delete your Live Mail account has nothing to do with Messenger.
I don't know why you are unable to delete the account. I've never encountered the messages you receive when you try to close the account. If Outlook is your default mail, I have no clue why you are sent to Live Mail for web links.
And I don't know why you don't see anything in Add Remove Programs related to Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Essentials. At this point, I'm out of suggestions for you. I wish I had something that would allow you to solve this issue.
I will monitor this topic, to see if you add anything which might give me a light bulb moment which could help you.
