ipod on xp to windows7

Does anyone know how I can sync my ipod to my computer since I upgraded to windows 7 from xp? I am terrified of losing stuff or breaking it. Thanks.

Did you back up your music and your iTunes folder?

I am having a problem where my ipod no longer shows up in itunes (and cant sync). It connects and shows up in windows explorer just not in itunes. I have done everything it says on their site (the 5 r's) and nothing helps. Apple wants me to pay just to talk to them so please if anyone knows how to make it show up and sync again let me know please.

Edit: downgraded to itunes 8 and it shows up in itunes but now it has to erase and resync everything which will take forever. At least I can use it again.
