Hi,
This is my first post here so sorry if I've missed any rules,
I've always had problems with my computer acting funny for as long as I can remember having windows XP and Vista (now using Vista), I've tried many different Anti-Malware programs and eventualy got to the point where I tried NOD32, now NOD32 costs money, which I don't have much of. I was talking with a friend before I tried NOD32 and when I asked him if it was freeware or payware he replied "Well, your supposed to pay for it." so I got the (not-so-)brilliant idea of downloading a hack for it (mara-fix 1.1 (http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/70835909/nod32?tab=summary)). The uploader made up a belivable but untrue excuse as to why it was being detected as a false-positive, I foolishly belived him and disabled Threatfire so it wouldn't block it, later on I discovered that my group policy settings were all screwed up and gpedit.exe had been nuked, I shortly after removed NOD32 and disabled the service for the crack in msconfig, then a week later Firefox wouldn't open, I reinstalled firefox and then Installed and scanned with A-Squared Free and Avast. I tried reinstalling Windows (old installation still on another HDD), but suddenly the new installation took dammage as well. About a month later Firefox got nuked again and reinstalling didn't work this time, so I scanned with avast again and this time tried Combofix (recomended by the fore-mention freind) and then Firefox worked.
What I need now is to know if I'm still infected or if Combofix wiped out whatever's there. the mara-fix 1.1 is the only known infection I may have, but I may have been infected with others before or after I tried to hack NOD32.
If someone could help me determine whether or not I'm infected and help me remove anything that's there, I'd really apreciate it.
Thx.

Hi Drift 91 and
to Bleeping Computer!
First of all a few warnings
Please note: ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert." It is NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.
Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.
Though A-squared is a good on-demand scanner, I really recommend you to have an active antivirus application. If you are looking for a freeware application, try Avira. Its completely free and has an excellent detection rate.
Also remember to use your Vista in-build firewall.
To determine whether you are still infected or not, please follow the steps below.
MALWAREBYTES ANTIMALWARE
-------------------------------------------
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.

- Avoid gaming sites, pirated software, cracking tools, keygens, and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs.
- They are a security risk which can make your computer susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft. Many malicious worms and Trojans spread across P2P file sharing networks, gaming and underground sites.
- Users visiting such pages may see innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users.
- The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid these types of web sites and not use any P2P applications.

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
- If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
- Exit MBAM when done.
If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.
- Right-click on mbam.exe, rename it to myscan.exe.
- Double-click on myscan.exe to launch the program.
- If that did not work, then try renaming and change the .exe extension in the same way as noted above.
- Double-click on myscan.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to launch the program.

Looks to me like it's infected judging by those chinese drivers.
Sorry if you wanted the .txt files as attachments, I couldn't find anyway to attach files.

Well, the chinese driver is legit, but often used for non-legit purposes. This driver belongs to MadCodeHook DLL injection software. It is possible this is installed on your computer, and in that case I strongly recomment to uninstall it.
Click Start > Run and type appwiz.cpl in the box that opens, press enter.
Look in the list for any entry that start with MadCodeHook, or Madshi and let me know if you found any.

No MadCodeHook or Madshi, and I don't recall installing such software.

I think in this instance it is a good idea to go for a deeper investigation. I cannot use the more advanced tools that are needed for that in this forum, for that you will need to post a DDS log in the HJT malware removal forum. Kindly note that it might take some time to get a reply there, since the forum is really busy. Logs are handled oldest ones first.
I would like you to start a new thread HERE and include a link to this thread. Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.
It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.
From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.
Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.
To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
