Hello. Our Toshiba laptop randomly shuts down then reboots itself. I'm thinking it's a virus. Any advice?

Since your system boots into XP...a good move, How To Disable Automatic Restarts When Windows Crashes - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic74644.html

Implementing the above will provide a readable error message that we can attempt to use to troubleshoot.

One question, does it CUT OFF? as in the screen goes black, then starts back up?

How long into use of the os will it do this?

You might have an Overheating issue. If you have run scans and nothing comes up, this might very well be your issue.

Check back!
