access point or wireless adapter

access point or wireless adapter, are they the same thing?

This is imortant to me because all things that are called adapters are mostly going through the usb port and most that are called access points use ethernet ports. I prefer to use ethernet but i need to make sure that the access point will be able to connect my computer to the wireless network. -------------------- "To do less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." Member Group: Members Posts: 145 Joined: 1-June 05 Member No.: 22,043	Not the same. You will want an adapter for a PC that you want to connect to the wireless network. In most cases the network is centered at the router itself but if you need to expand the range of your wireless network you would use another access point. So PCs use adapters to connect themselves to wireless networks. The networks have access points to give PCs and their adapters better coverage.
