BleepingComputer.com: I need help securing my computer

Hello I was wondering if i could have some assistance of course fustration has led me here. I am running Windows Vista home edition on a fairly new laptop. Its a 64bit 4 Gb . I have recently taken measures to make my computer more secure. I am i would say a novice computer user with a fairly good grasp. I'd like to say i was more savy but hence i am here. I recently downloaded Avast Home/ antivirus. I still have a subscription of TrendMicro which i am on the fence about. sometimes i run them concurrently, Ive some other programs also like Spyware Doctor, Registry PC, My FasterPC, But i don't know where to turn as it is a more increasing marketing tactic to say "Were the Best" I do run a Firewall via window stock installed, I know not to run 2 firewalls at once. I tried to download Comodo i hear that this is suppose to be pretty good. But having issues now that all the programs seem to conflict and autoshut down. when i ever i run programs for spyware, etc each on finds something different. I worry about fixing somethings due to phantom registerys etc. Is there such thing as too clean? ive heard that sometimes this can leaves skips across the harddrive thereby making what you wanted to optimize slower.
I also have Identity patrol loaded...by now i am sure i sound paranoid but for good reason have had webemail account hacked etc.. I know this because the person printed a copy of one of my emails. : If that is not proof i am not sure what is. have had avast say had some virus i deleted as well. Wondering if A. someone could help solve the multitude programs..do i really need these all to get my life back. LOL B. help iron out the kinks..Any suggestions
