What message does it show exactly. The SP2 in Vista requires atleast SP1 to be installed before you can install SP2. Do you have Vista SP1 installed?

my computer after installing sevice pact one I thought service pact 2 came with vista ultimate??? Another question is why did microsoft tell me the installation of service pact one was important if they knew users of vista ultimate where beginning to experience problems with an overwrite corrupting certain drivers...

1 When you buy Vista DVD it is written on it, if it is SP1 or SP2. If you buy laptop or computer with Vista pre-installed, you need to make specific enquiries about Vista versions and service packs.
2 Only a Microsoft representative can answer that kind of question.
