system configuration

Hi Guys.
Ive just update my old computer and I'm now in possession of a Toshiba A350 laptop running Vista home premium.
I have masses of icons in my task bar and wanted to reduce my boot up time as it seems to take quite a while.
Could you tell me if there is anything in the sys.config. start up list that I shouldn't uncheck ?
I have a total of 44 items checked at the moment which seems quite high to me.
Any advice welcome.

What are those "masses of icons" in your task bar? You could probably stop most or ALL of them. 44 does sound like a lot of useless garbage. I have Ultimate, and I only have 23 items to check or uncheck in start up, of that i think i have around 18 or 19 checked. The only thing made by Windows or Microsoft in my Start-up menu (in sys config) is Media player, and I have it turned off.

Can you give us a screen shot or a snip of what you have going on?

Hi mate.
Thanks for the reply but in the attachment section it says used space 429.14k of 512 but I havent uploaded anything yet, so Upload one image and thats nearly all used up.
Any ideas ?

The only things I would suggest turning on at bootup are:

Microsoft Operating System
Your Anti-Spyware
Your Anti-Virus
Anything else Microsoft that has to do with the system and is not one of their software (ie Moviemaker, Media Player, Messenger)

Thats basically it.

Who said I couldn't have everything?

Thank you for your reply and sorry for my late response.

I still cant seem to upload images as it appears I dont have enough allowance on this forum, is the 512k allowance for this thread or my whole account and includes images ive uploaded in the past, if the latter how do I remove the old images so I can upload new ones.

I will try unchecking most things in my start up list as you suggested. I'll start with the 9 things that begin with "TOSHIBA" :huh:
