Vista Home Basic rundll32 & windows explorer stopped working

Isn't VISTA great .. when it's running properly

Problem started last week ... booted up and this pops up rundll32 & windows explorer stopped working and keeps looping [closes & reopens]

I've tried REPAIR ... still looping

I've tried SAFE MODE .... still looping

Looked at other websites for solutions ... one suggestion was Press Ctrl-alt-delete and bring up the Task Manager,


click on the tab Processes and end the process 'System Idle Process',


this will stop the looping effect. DID NOT WORK in SAFE MODE

Everytime it REBOOTS [loops] I try to type in restore ... no luck :huh:

Hope someone can help

NO BACKUP ... but have ghost ready should we resolve issue

Anxiously awaiting for a solution

In the Applications window of Task Manager, end All tasks
Start a new task and type explorer.exe and click OK
What happens?

If garmanma's suggestion doesn't seem to work. Ask yourself, what antivirus do you have on your computer?

If you have more than one, then the problem is they are both trying to startup, and Vista is saying NO!

If you have recently installed a new antivirus onto your computer, uninstall it.

Also, was the computer shut down unexpectedly? Possibly due to a storm or some type of surge? If it was, you could have corrupt system files that just aren't acting properly.
