I just recently formatted my older computer (desktop) and put Ubuntu 9.04 on it. It installed successfully, but now that I have plugged in my wireless adapter to connect the internet, It does not seem to work.
I realized that I need a driver to get my wireless card (Belkin Wireless G FD7000 V. 4000) to work. I downloaded mad-wifi and installed it. I followed the instructions the How-to page. While I was using the terminal, it said that I had to install the package madwifi-tools... using apt-get. I could not connect to the internet using wifi, and therefore it encountered an error when I tried to use apt-get, saying that it could not locate the package.
I then proceeded to download ndiswrapper (common files, utilities, and ndisgtk according to the ubuntu how-to page)...
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/...ver/Ndiswrapper
then installed all of the packages in the correct order. I put in my Windows Driver CD, located the correct .INF file, and installed it. Once completed, ndisgtk said that it could not locate the hardware... but as soon as I closed that window, the ndisgtk main window stated that the hardware was present. I still could not locate my wireless network, and so I installed the windows 98 driver as well.
By my network card "not working", I mean that it can neither find my network in the connections app, nor establish a connection to it. I have manually entered all of the correct information into the network connection app, including my WEP key, correct ESSID, and everything else, but to no avail. I have searched for the access point and everything.
Below is my ifconfig and iwconfig:
ifconfig:

Please Help me! I'm really new to Linux so if someone could explain what I need to do in simple terms, I should be able to catch on.
Thank you very much!
