Looking to add a cd/dvd drive and possibly a video card upgrade, any ideas?

My philosophy on buying computers/components..."If it's newer and more reliable than what I currently have and the price is right, get it because it's an improvement."

But...first shop around and see if there are better values around.

During the past couple of days, I've been "window shopping" and it seems that there are a number of complete systems with RAM which are available right now for less than $350-400 (which is the most that I would pay for any system I'm going to use to do the things I do).

Examples: http://www.pcdirectsource.com/Item.cfm?ID=2457 AND http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....00%20-%20%24300 AND http://www.walmart.com/browse/Computers/De...elected_items=+

What OS will you be using? ATI cards don't work very well with Linux, from what I've heard.
