Hi there

I am wondering whether somebody would be able to help me out; here is my situation i am currently working as a (part-time) techie at my school, and i am looking for a instant messaging program which can be monitored/controlled by the teacher of that class

it's hard to share class related information via each other and a program which can be mointored or even watch the text ( programs like italc, "It lets you view and control other computers in your network in several ways" http://italc.sourceforge.net/home.php)

if anyone has some background on this please answer back, (preferably the program is free!)

Does the monitoring need to be real-time or just so that a record is kept of the chat session?

Most chat clients provide a method of keeping real-time logs of the chat, so most any client will do if that's all you want.

You may want to look at IRC. That way you can also run the server-side of things.

Since I don't know what your platform is, here's cross-platform software:
Server: IRCD Hybrid
Client: XChat
