BleepingComputer.com: Gateway GT5475E

Hello once again,

Im helping my friend reformat his Gateway GT5475E, nothing special just reformat and setup. Simply put ,my query is if theres any know issue with a Gateway GT5475E running Windows XP.

Edit: I have looked at the gateway.com site for drivers however, the gateway.com site has drivers for the GT5475E in windows XP but only for the modem.

If you entered the serial number in the box provided HERE and only came up with one need`d driver that usually means that the rest of the devices are supported\installed when XP is installed.

If you find all devices do not have drivers installed then check HERE.

Down towards the bottom of the page are also wireless and wired NIC drivers.

Thanks for all the info, looks like those drivers will work fine. Didnt tab over the first time on the site.

When installing i get ERROR: Partition Tabe on 80h is invalid [sector 204346801]. Any ideas on how to get the hard drive from the error?

EDIT: Tried just popping back in XP install disk but no luck, stops after asking to press F2 to run ASR.

What info. I can find on that error suggests a corrupted MBR = Master Boot Record.

When the new install was done were all partitions deleted\reformatted\ then the new install? Or was perhaps a small partition left? Sounds to me like the original MBR was left and is now incorrect or damaged.

Dont know what happend but seems to be fine now, finally got past the F2 option to load the ASR during XP install initial startup sequence.
Was also able to partition the HD as i was set to. Has a 320 GB hd installed, talk about a long wait when i formated.

That is a possibility.

You can go [ur=http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html]here[/=url] and download the proper diagnostic tool to test the drive.

These tools are not 100% fool proof. The drive may be going bad and it could still report good. But if it says it is bad then it is.
