battery wont charge on my pc but will on another.

I have a toshiba satillite m115, the battery wont charge. and the laptop wont work with the power cord plugged in with the battery removed. also a friend has a m105 so i took my battery to his house and it charges fine in his laptop. what else could be the problem? also another thing, when i have the battery in the m115 and i plug in the power adapter the screen gets brighter so im not sure if its the plug or not?
