Dell XPS M1210 won't boot

Good evening everyone:

Here is the problem I'm having with my XPS M1210. When I start the system up, BIOS begins it's startup check of devices. The progress bar goes all the way and then I get the following error:

No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics

The system is not detecting CD-ROM or Hard Drive. I change the startup from standard to thorough and sometimes this seems to work but not all the time. Any ideas on what I can try for this system?

Anyone with any insight on this? It's very frustrating and I'm hoping to get this computer up and running if I can.

I ran the diagnostics and no hard drive/cd drive was detected. There is no power getting to these drives when the computer starts up. I also noticed the CPU fan is not turning on when the computer is powered up. I'm guessing the motherboards is shot.

I tend to think "power supply" long before I think "motherboard."

Since this is a laptop, I have to bow out...there are others here who can offer better ideas/suggestions.

I'm also going to suggest that this be moved to one of the hardware forums, since that seems to be the nature of your problem (not XP).
