dvd rw not showing im removable storage

hi i am hoping someone can help me my dvd rw/cd rw is not showing up in removable storage i think i can find in device manager it's a maxtor 6l160p0 but when i googled it it came up has hard drive so i'm not totaly sure if that is it i think i removed it accidently when i had my mp3 plugged in i used the remove hardware tab i think i revoved the wrong one.

Try deleting it in Device Manager...and rebooting.

Remove any flash drives which are currently attached.

An .mp3 player...is a flash drive that's been slightly modified, that's why users can store data files on them.

Sometimes...having such things attached when trying to solve problems...is a self-inflicted wound that can be avoided.

hi thatwas 3 weeks ago it was only the other day when i tried to make a cd and it told me i had no cd writer my cd draw won't open either is that because it's not n removable storage

I've seen my optical drive not reflected as removeable storage...it still worked properly.

I can't give you a better answer than that.

Has anyone been inside the case?

Since the tray will not open it sounds like the power connector is disconnected.

i'v double checked device manager and my dvd writer is not there i had someone check the connection and it's plugged in

Does it even show up in Computer management> Disk management?

The lower section on the left hand side?

If not and you are sure both the power and data cables are plugged in then it may be time for a new drive. :thumbsup:
