LOL. Drinks all around.

Before digging for the battery try re-seating the memory. An easy enough thing to do.

If you go here and click on the 5th link down titled "[PDF]Maintenance and Service Guide" you will get a guide in PDF. I`ll figure you have a PDF reader installed such as Adobe.

Take you time.

I may not be around after a bit today or much of tomorrow. But will check back in ASAP.

In the mean time there are many far more capable then I that may jump in should further assistance be need`d.

Good luck.

ok just got it apart.

Removed the memory sticks (Both of them)
placed them back in but not without making sure they werent loose in the first place
or that any of their connectors, pins, leads had no scratches, scrapes, marks, or any types of imperfections

basically i couldn't find Anything that would result in human interference

placed it all back together, and closed it up and turned it on

still back to the same deal

One long beep
Two short beeps

i tried going to a most recent working settings / starting normally / start in safe (with / out networking )
none worked

still in same boat

PS its hard for me to know when a reply comes in here because for some reason the notifications are going to my mailbox

Pop`d in tonight to hopefully find good news. So much for hoping. Let me know the result of the test. While it is a good idea to rule out all things possible when trouble shooting, I`m not holding out much hope that it will solve the problem.

test resulted in nothing wrong as it found.
Guess the next step is to discuss the tiny battery attached to the motherboard?
i downloaded the service manual
ill peak in there to see if it discusses how to remove / replace / check it but

im not sure i have the right tools for testing it

obviously i dont want to toss it out if its not the problem but

how would i test it?

can i stick my tongue on it and wait for a discharge? lol

They are pretty much a standard battery available almost anywhere. About the size of a quarter and designed like a watch battery.

anything else?
cause im lost on this one

im getting additional help elsewhere but still no good results.

I have even tried putting in a WINDOWS XP HOME installation CD and booting off that

but not dice.

If it were the bettery we were speaing of above
then i dont think id be able to get even that far ( boot from CD ) if i left it unplugged for a day
and turned it on and gave it a try.

either way... wanted to see if there were anything else to try... test?

Still seems a problem of the MDA, CGA card

OK so I've noticed that this thread has been left somewhat unattended for several weeks but i was just wondering if u have found out the answer to this problem since my computer is too doing this... 1 long and 2 short (more or less like 2 short and 1 long). Best Buy wanted me to buy a new motherboard but i persisted in denying the problem as being a failed motherboard... i mean this computer has my life on it. We got it back in 2005. it's an HP Media Center PC m7640n. Desktop, Windows XP, 2 GB Processor and 320 gb's of memory. not once had it failed like now. before it gave out all together it had some minor problems... the screen would occasionally not display the color red and/or any shade of it. Only when i had loaded my online game had it returned to normal. Now, it only beeps at me. I'm just looking for an answer to fixing my old Friend. I am 16 and very self-experienced in computers so don't worry about whether i know what u r talking about or not lol I seek Ur guidance master; show me the way
