BleepingComputer.com: Registry backup procedure

I have accidentally deleted some keys from the registry while removing some viruses and adware from my computer. It crippled my IE and does strange thing when i try to open FFDshow's configure dialog, it reports it can not find a specified procedure (and the window title is "rundll"). Maybe these two problems are connected but main thing is IE can't work well.

I have backuped my registry base some time before trying to remove adware, so the values are 5-6 months old.

Is there a way to "fill-in" the missing keys from the old .bkf file to the registry without restoring the registry completely to the old state? And there is some "RegBack" folder in Winnt/repair folder, could that help?

P.S. I've tried with reinstalling everything on my computer: from IE, to Win. So that didn't help. During reinstallation, Windows installed older version of "Windows Installer", do you know where i could find the onlyt the newer version without the additional software?

I forgot to say that i have Windows 2000.

You can try to use The Registry Repair Utility download for Windows 2000-based computers. Not sure if it will work though.

I don't know... their description looks unsafe, and i cant risk data loss!!!

Any more ideas?

1. Go Here and download ERUNT

2. Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
3. Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
4. Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
5. Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
6. Press OK
7. Press YES to create the folder.
