Sorry for the belated respond. Been on vacation.
My camera is a DCR-HC32 Sony Handycam.
I haven't had time to play with any more, but a friend
told me to unplug all of my UBS devices except the key
board and the camera and see if that solves the prob.

Also I have been looking into other video editing software.
It is so confusing. Do you have any suggestions on software?
Any software to stay away from? Don't want to be a pro just
want to edit out all fo the bad stuff.

Do you have Windows XP? Windows XP movie maker, that comes with it, may be fine for what you need. Also are you taping the movies on the tapes or the memory stick? If tapes you need a capture card I believe

Gateway 750
win 98se
348 mb ram
15 gig hd
10.5 gig open

Recorded on both tape and memeoy card. The computer
down loaded ever thing from the card including the mini
movies. But when I tried to download the taped movie nothing
happens. Tried taking out the memory stick, and trying that but
still nothing.

I tried doing some research for you, but this may be a function of the operating system. From what I was told you should be able to download from the tape via theusb cable, but they tested it on XP.

Have you called Sony?

Pink, I did some research at Sony.com & this blurb is taken from the FAQ's for your model #

How to connect a digital camcorder to a computer to transfer USB streaming video.

Follow this procedure to connect a digital camcorder to a computer to transfer USB streaming video.

IMPORTANT:

The computer must have a standard factory installed USB port and compatible video software.
USB streaming is not supported on computers running the Microsoft® Windows® 98 operating system or earlier. USB streaming is not compatible on computers running an Apple® Mac OS® operating system.
Not all Sony® digital camcorders have USB streaming capability. Consult the instruction manual of the camcorder for compatibility information.

I hope this helps you. Here is the website in case you want to check for yourself
