Well 4 months old then you really do no need driver update.
Click on the big touchpad arrow picture, that you have posted, to open settings. Then go to touchpad settings and disable tap.
This article shows how : http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_to_change...references.html
The basic idea is that your touchpad is too sensitive and when you type, it sense your fingers hovering over touchpad and detects taps and moves cursor to position where your mouse cursor is - thus making your cursor jump.
My cursor is all over the place My cursor keeps jumping

Hi Romeo,
As you can see by my screen shot, there is no tab for settings so I'm a bit lost. Would it be okay to completely disable my touch pad? I've seen the option for that although it says "advanced." Doesn't Microsoft let us know when we need updates for drivers, too. Grrrrrr. Right now it's really bad and it's taking me a long time to type this. If it were the sensitivity of the touch pad, which I know IS sensitive, wouldn't it happen all the time? I'll wait for you answer on disabling my touch pad.

Hi Linda,
You have to click on the huge brown arrow to open Dell touchpad settings.
Yes, you can disable touchpad and and use an external USB mouse. Microsoft doesn't inform for 3rd party drivers, they inform for MS drivers only. Your Dell touchpad drivers are based on Synaptics drivers. You can uninstall Dell touchpad and install Synaptics drivers too, but you would lose any customizations that Dell has made in drivers.
Another thing that crossed my mind is that your laptop is only 4 months old so why not call the Dell Support and see what they say.

Hi Romeo,
The reason I didn't call Dell when all this started is because I can't stand being on the phone with Dell. lol They have very long hold times and they are so slow. I went to properties and found where I could check for driver updates in mouse properties and it told me "the best driver for your device is already installed." I would have disabled my touch pad but that option was grayed out. So what I did was take a piece of cardboard and put it over my touchpad and I haven't had my cursor jump once since I did that. I have had an external mouse since right after I bought this laptop. I can't stand using the touchpad. So now I have to call Dell and see what they're going to do about my defective touchpad. Thank you for all of your help. I'm so excited that I can type fast again but I don't like this cardboard taped to my computer. lol

Hi Romeo,
I also meant to tell you that I still don't have the same options that you show on your screen shot. When I got to touchpad settings, this is what I get. Should I uncheck "Tap to Click"?

Hi Linda,
In my opinion you are using an old Dell Touchpad driver. The TouchCheck feature was later renamed to HandCheck.
From Synaptics Manual :
So you should experiment with TouchCheck feature of your Dell.
If this does not work, you should disable Tap to click option and also increase Touchpad Sensivity towards Heavy Touch
Also in my opinion, you should uninstall Dell driver and install Synaptics driver which is newer than what you currently have. But make sure you have Dell driver CD or download Dell driver from their support site before you do so just in case.

From Synaptics Manual :
Quote
The HandCheck™ feature guards against operating the TouchPad with accidental contact. HandCheck allows the TouchPad to recognize when your palm is resting on it or brushing its surface while you are typing. This will help to prevent unwanted pointer movement or clicks.
If the TouchPad exhibits undesired pointer movement or clicks, increase the HandCheck setting by moving the slider to the right toward Maximum. If the TouchPad misses intended motions or taps, decrease the HandCheck setting by moving the slider to the left toward Minimum. You are more likely to experience missed motions or taps if the slider is in the red zone.

Thank you, Romeo. I will try that if I remember. I might call Dell, anyway, so that I don't do anything wrong. lol

How long have you been having this problem? How long have you had the laptop before the problem started?
Typically when I here about this problem its because the touchpad is being touched, even if just very slightly, while your typing. Turning off the touchpad completely is an option if you never use it. Seeing as how you covered the pad and the cursor stopped jumping I'm willing to bet thats the problem.
Remember that if you turn off the mouse, its a PAIN to turn it back on with just the keyboard if your not familiar with keyboard commands. Make sure you don't forget to take the mouse with you while your out and about.
