Left 4 Dead Need help updating

Hi all, Just wondering if there is a way to update Left4Dead without having Steam. I have searched google but cant find anywere to download updates.

Not that I know of there is not.
Valve made the game so all the updates go through them via a steam account, you get updates alot from them so i would just make your account if you can.

Tug is right, the game is built with the (no pun intended) Steam engine that will only allow updates through the Valve servers.
