Beeping sound

when i turned on my CPU, it makes a long beep sound and the power just shut down, and right now it will just turn off for about 10 secs. what would be the possible caused of this? thank you in advanced

possible things are:
no ram installed
no cpu installed
no heat sink
heat sink not put on right
computer overheating
dead motherboard or cpu or ram

System manufacturer and model (e.g., Dell Dimension 1234, eMachines T1234, etc.)?
