Do you have your security setting set to block ActiveX.
Do you use a third-party firewall? Is it set to allow ms updates? Have you tried to put ms updates in your Trusted Sites zone, in Internet Explorer? -------------------- I love being married.

Also which Windows OS are using? XP Home, XP Pro? If you have XP Pro, you could launch gpedit.msc and go and check the policy of the local machine. I am trying to look up for XP Home and maybe get you an answer. Also is this your machine or a machine belonging to a corporate domain? If you are not, there may be a corporate policy that blocks you from Windows Update because your company is using SMS or another product.

Go into your Windows directory and loacte the log file called Windows Update or WindowsUpdate. There is a difference in those two log files. In there you should be able to find a possible error code. It may be in hex. You could post it here or you try copying the error into Google.
