Hi,

I recently had a problem that forced me to reinstall windows xp. I tried to do a repair but it would not let me perform this task. Here is the question. The hard drive still shows that the files are still taking up space on the hard drive. Is it possible for to recover these files? I would hate to lose alot of the photo albums and my cd collection. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Virgil

Im not sure what you mean by "the files are still there" you mean you can see them by looking through your folders in windows or did you see them on a different partition did you see them with a program?

Hi are you sure they are files and not folders, if they are files you should be able to click on them to open them up, if they are folders they will come up empty. also if files are there and they come up then you should be able to move them.

Sorry, what i meant is that I have a 50 gb hard drive and it looks like the files are still using space. I can not see the actual files to click on them and use them. I did a search to try to locate some of the mp3's and jpegs but they are not showing up.

hi what makes you think they are still taking up space, have you tried hidden folders and files do search again and this click on to show hidden folders and files , if nothing comes up then they are deleted.

when you did a reinstall did you do a format of your drive or put it on another part of your drive because looking at the figures you still have part of windows on there.

When I reinstalled windows I used the same partition the old windows was on. I did not reformat.

Is there a way for me to get the music and pictures back?

If not how do I need clean the hard drive and start from scratch?
