My windows Media Player can't open .mp4 files. . . I have tried to search the web for software that can play my video but unfortunately, I end up installing something useless. . .

I also found an article saying Windows Media Player could play mp4 files. . .

I'm totally confused.

Can anyone help me?

I have never been able to get Windows Media Player to play MP4 files. Ever. No matter what I tried. So I stopped trying.

VLC Media Player is a free and open-source media player that plays just about every format known to humankind, including MP4 files. I use it (almost) exclusively.

Nothing happens? You mean VLC won't run?

Did you uninstall all the "useless" prior to installing VLC?
