Hi, at the moment I am hosting my site with Heart Internet and I thought I would look around for a better deal, I read about Go Daddy and they seem to be cheaper, I just wondered if anyone had any past experiances with them and whether they are any good or not.

Thankyou, Wolfy87.

Go Daddy only seems cheap, they end up nickle and diming you on things that are normally included with other hosts. Their interface is also horrible to use and doing easy things like creating backups takes 3 times as long as it does for other sites. And when you need to talk to them they do not have a 1800 number and sometimes you can be on hold for entirely too long with tech support that do not know much.

On the other hand I recommend BlueHost.com. I have been using them for years. Their interface is extremely simple to use, feature rich, and well laid out. When you do have a question they almost always answer within seconds of calling and every support person seems to know the answer to every question I have had. Here is a link to see what they offer: http://www.BlueHost.Com/tellmemore

Blue Host has very good ratings. Another company that I like is http://www.1and1.com

Go Daddy is a terrible excuse for a company, I won't go into details though.

I like dreamhost.com.

Then why even comment on it? This is a public forum for exchanging information. If you had problems with GoDaddy, then say what sort of problems that you had. If you had a good experience with a hosting company, please tell us why. I for one have never had problems with GoDaddy. Admittedly their interface became more complex when they upgraded, but that has nothing to do with their hosting. With any new UI, it takes a bit to re-orient one's self. GoDaddy also has 480 505 8877 listed as their toll-free support number.

According to several sites, GoDaddy is at least in the top 25 for hosting services. Bluehost is top 5 in one survey, and not even in the top 25 in other surveys. 1and1 rates fluctuates between top 12 and top 20

I maintain a site hosted on 1and1, and I have yet to hear back from tech support in over a year. Their hosting is fine though; I have never had a probelm with the site being unavailable, and their admin interface is easy enough.

Maybe you should learn to read TOSes instead of hitting the checkbox blindly. Go Daddy is infamous for stealing domains, screwing around with customers, killing hosting accounts for absurd reasons. Their terms of service pretty much allow them to do whatever they want with your domains and websites. If they want your domain, they will take it and sell it. I direct you to http://forums.nodaddy.com/ - Hell, look at http://news.cnet.com/2100-1025_3-6153607.html

Dreamhost on the other hand I have nothing but good things to say. They are currently offering an unlimited plan for their 11th birthday which looks pretty sweet. Their panel is nice, and they let you host porn (not that you are), but it's nice to know their rules are loose.

Why would you assume that I don't read the TOS's? Again, I have never had any problem with GoDaddy, but I appreciate that you at least quantified your opinion, because it appears that you must have blindly clicked on TOS's which apparently led to some assumptions on your part. I can just as easily direct you to Dreamhost Sucks, of just direct you to the Google results for Dreamhost sucks.

The purpose of a forum is to exchange experiences, and ideas, and to help the community. That means if you have issues, then share your experience and let the rest of us decide if the problems are your fault, or are indeed with whatever service that you are criticizing.

I hosted on Godaddy for a year and it was slow everyday, day and night. I used 1and1 hosting for about 15 days and got a refund cause their customer service was awful and again the hosting was slow. I'm currently looking for a new host and have heard great things about HostGator and Bounce Hosting.

I have been using godaddy for roughly a year now and have no major problems with it. No host is perfect, however apart from the ui of there website i am pleased with them.

In regards to the support i have always sent a support ticket and have always got a reply within 24hours.

as a web designer --I have had many come to me with Go daddy issues. Yes they nickel & dime you to death for every little thing. One & one has horrible customer service, they say it is 24/7 yet at 3 am no one answers the phone.

Now the company I use uses Apache, has shell access, offers everything in a lum sum package for around $70 a year (includes Mysql database, photo album, email accounts, domain privacy etc)

If you want a "shopping cart" the cost is around $120 a year, and they include their SSL certificate so you dont have to purchase your own.

Check them out here

Another think I like is when I call at 3 am I get an ENGLISH speaking rep on the other end, and when I have problems it is fixed almost instantly...once a client deleted some server files on their site- called in & with in 5 mins they had restored the server files.

I have been using Go Daddy for about 12 years now and have never had any issues, called their tech support and had someone on the phone within minutes. i currently have about 25 websites both registered and some are hosted through them, their prices are a little higher for hosting than some others on the net, a new company that i have found that is an awesome price is anhosting.com, they give you an incredible amount of space and i have two clients using them with an e commerce shopping cart and they have had zero downtime since starting with them about a year ago.
just my two cents worth

As a web designer/developer. I also "Sub host" to clients. I use Hostgator.com They have a 24 hour Web Chat support that's outstanding. They use Cpanel (which i like to be in control of my sites)

The price is great as well!

A co-worker of mine has a horror story of GoDaddy trying to rip him off for an SSL certificate and when he didn't want to pay tribute they made it hard for him to move his domain name to another registrar. If you are going to use the for hosting, make sure you use a separate domian registrar.
