I can't connect my desktop to my wireless

I have wireless internet and my laptop detects it as well as my desktop but when i click connect to my network (which is security enabled) it says it my be out of range and to refresh....it doesn't even let me type in my passwork. It's a netgear router...please help. thank you

Ok to your question. What Operating system are you using? ? Do you know what "wireless" hardware you have on the Desktop? A bit more on the Netgear would help out as well.

How old is the wireless adapters? Is there encryption on the wireless? Will the adapters be able to use a modern encryption like WPA2? What is your signal strength?
