Would I be able to do this through msconfig? Whenever I start the computer it spends a minute with the little flashlight icon in the lowerleft trying to find companion.exe and one other executible. This is 98SE. How can I tell windows to stop searching? I think the program it was used for was removed.

It has to do with AOL so i would be sure all instances of AOL are removed. Did you have AOL?

Well i would think that is what i would do however i am far from a computer guru. It is up to you. Maybe you may want to wait for other suggestions however i don't see how doing that would make the situation any worse.
