My Vaio will not start, the logo flashes and then a blank screen appears, and the only way I can get it to start is with the original installation disk. I've tried to fix files and there are many files that are corrupted. I then used the insallation disk to try to do a complete system restore in the Vaio recovery center and after choosing format c: to restore the opertain system I get an error message Error: 403.

Is there any other way to fromat C: and relaod? Should I go to the commmand prompt?

Thanks

I just restarted and was able to get to a commnad prompt still using the installation disk and ran CHKDSK. There are no less than 40 file segments that are unreadable and several that are corrupt and I just 8% complete.

Do I need to replace the HD?

Thanks
