have a Compaq Preario sr2170nx,question;can i use pentiumD 965 EE with this mobo?

It depends.

The motherboard doesn't support 1066 fsb CPUs. The EE has an unlocked multiplier, but since it is an OEM board, you might not even be able to tweek the multiplier on an unlocked CPU. Another problem is you cannot know if you motherboard will boot with that CPU. As it is an OEM board, you might not be able to run the CPU at anywhere it's rated speed. I looked at the BIOS updates for that board and I still don't see any support for anything besides 533/800 fsb CPUs.

You may very well be able to run that CPU in that motherboard, but you don't have any idea at what speed it will run at.
