RAM UPGRADE PROBLEM SHOWING 1.87GB SHOULD BE 2GB

Hi All,

I upgraded my RAM on a DELL INSPIRON 1501 running windows XP SP2 with AMD Turion 64 x 2 Module TL-50 1.60 Ghz

Original RAM 512MB

New RAM 2 x 1GB Kingston 533 Mhz DDR2 SODIMM PC4200

Why is it showing only 1.87GB Ram? Shouldn't it show 2GB after the upgrade?

Can anyone help with this one?

I`m going to guess you are running a video card with 128 MB of RAM.

Windows does some weird math when showing the amount of RAM and factoring the amount +\- the video card.

When it is all said and done Windows is using all 2 gigs. Just reporting it in an odd way.

It's simply a matter of where you are looking :thumbsup:.

If you check the BIOS/boot data, you see the RAM installed in full.

If you right-click on My Computer and look at the General data, you are not getting the full story...for the reasons previously expressed.

If you look at Total Physical Memory, using msinf032, you get the right story.

Thanks for that. I checked START>Accessories>system information as suggested and voila
2048MB of Total Physical Memory.

All is Good in the Hood
