At times my old computer, used sparingly by my wife - Windows 98 - will not shut down the normal manner - it just hangs there with nothing going on - and has to be shut down manually - a no-no - by pushing in the on/off button.
I have done all I know to do including scan disk/defrag while in safe mode etc.
And suggestions?
Thank you
Norson

Hi Norson, what you describe is an acknowledged problem in 98 & 98se.There is
a patch available at microsoft for just this issue. It is difficult to find though and
did not really solve the problem for my system.A better solution is a program @
a place on the web(LOL)called Kill Windows, and now I think about it I think
Webgrid.co.uk might be a link. This is a neat free utility is the point, very useful when the system hangs or freezes because it is on the desktop and allways
works.Another is Escape Close @ Anolog X,where FYI there is a heap of really
excellent free programs,(even though I'll probably be shut down for saying so)
Hey! it's Easydesk Software, another HOME OF GREAT REGISTRY UTILITIES,
including the First Ammendment Protection Utility! LOL
