BleepingComputer.com: Hard drive space showing wrong

hey guys.. im new here.. i got a problem with my pc... after reformatting my hard drive my hard drive space only shows as 1.99gb.. even though its a 40gb hard drive .. does anyone a step by step instruction on how to fix this?... im currently running windows xp pro.. any help will be much appreciated

When you reformatted did you by mistake remake the main partition to only 2 gigabytes?

If this is the case, and you havent put any delicate information on your machine yet you can just re-reformat and remake the partition.

Or you can install a third party app such as partition magic. and resize the partition through the program. Its not free though. Ill do some researach and try to find a free one.

Run it.

You'll see your 1,99 Gb partition and large unallocated space.

1) RT click to your 1,99 Gb partition

3) Rt click to unallocated space and choose Create partition
4) Select file system and size of partition you need and click OK
4) Thus you can create as many partitions as you want.

Don't forget to commit all operations.

But generally ADDS interface is very clear and I think you’ll be able to do it yourself even you are not an computer expert.

If you dont want to deal with a third party program to repartition your drive. Just reinstall Windows XP and Delete all the partitions it shows. Make sure you Boot from the CD-ROM on the XP CD. Format the HD under NTFS.
