hi-
is there a way to get microsoft word with out purchasing microsoft office. im not talking about anything illegal i just dont need all the other stuff.

I don't think so but you could use OpenOffice. Fully compatible with Word Excel Powerpoint. 100% free and 100% legal

Stand Alone Word

It's not cheap, but it's available for trial/purchase. Open office is a great free alternative for the penny wise.

edit: The home and student version is reasonable and I THINK that you can choose to only install the word portion. I just installed the military appreciation version and I think I remember seeing check boxes. I hope this helps.
