Gateway Laptop board shorted out by metal clips Anyone have this happen to them..

We have an 16 month old Gateway laptop. Recently it would not power up. Took it to the bestbuy where we purchased it and they say that it will cost 700.00 to fix the board. It seems that there are some metal clips inside the computer that came loose and shorted out the motherboard. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did you have any luck getting gateway to stand by their product and make it right ?
