Hello. I am pretty savvy with computers, but before I buy a new motherboard I was thinking of other things I may have missed. Maybe I skipped something. Anyways. Here is the problem.

Computer worked fine, it's roughly 2 years old. An Emachines T6420 model. And randomly one day it didn't turn on, so I pressed the button again and it powered up but nothing came on. My guess at first was bad ram, so I tested the ram, works fine. After being powered down for a bit it boots up fine so I shutdown windows and turned it on again. Same problem. After that I thought maybe the power switch. tested it and a few others. wasn't the switch. So I bought a new 600watt power supply. Same thing.

So I'm then thinking classic heating issue. The heat sensors isn't showing any overheating on the processors part, and I put new arctic silver on it and nothing changed. So now I'm thinking it's a motherboard short. Maybe I'm forgetting something. I'd rather not buy a new motherboard if it wasn't the problem. o.o... Any thoughts?

Hi .

<<...so I pressed the button again and it powered up but nothing came on.>>

I'm trying to figure out how that statement can be made...how can a system power up but nothing works?

If you mean that some lights came on...but the fans did not spin, etc...I don't think I'd call that "powering up." Doesn't take much juice to get lights to flash or get juiced.

You've checked all connections?

No error messages that might relate...in Event Viewer?

Correct, I pressed the switch, all the fans and hard drives and everything turned on. No video. It's definitely not a video problem, and most certainly not something so simple as everything not being plugged in.

When it doesn't work, it powers up for a second, then shuts off. Then if you press it again it turns on and doesn't show anything.

When it does, everything is fine.
